The images you conjure in the mind! We planned this trip to take my father on his trip of a lifetime (he has always spoke of driving there). He backed out so as not to detract from our enjoyment. So we flew off to Vancouver, BC and boarded the Diamond Princess for our cruise to Seaward, AK. We took many of the excursions offered (bear & whale watching and dog sledding on a glacier. Once in Seward, we went to Anchorage to get a rental car then drove back to Seward. Along the way we saw Beluga whales and eagles! In and around Seward we kayaked Resurrection Bay, hiked up to a glacier face, panned for gold and hired a fishing guide to catch salmon on the Kenai River. Then we drove to Fairbanks to Chenna Hot Springs where we soaked in the springs and toured what remains of their ice hotel (they have three bedrooms you can stay in), the next morning we departed.

Sadly, I received the call that my mother passed as we were on our way to Fairbanks. I was fortunate to be able to stop next to a lake and commune with nature and say my goodbyes.
